Chapter 99: The Verdict of the Ancients
As the silence between Qin Wentian and Chu Ling'er continued to hang in the air, the weight of their unspoken words began to crush them. The tension was palpable, and it seemed as though the very fabric of reality was about to tear apart.
"You're going to pay for what you did," Qin Wentian's voice was low and deadly, his eyes blazing with fury.
Chu Ling'er's gaze remained fixed on Qin Wentian, her expression unyielding. "You have no right to speak," she spat. "I did what needed to be done to protect our clan."
Qin Wentian's smile was cold and calculating. "Our clan? You mean the clan that you betrayed?"
Chu Ling'er's eyes flashed with anger, but she remained silent, her jaw clenched in determination.
"Enough," Qin Wentian's voice was like a crack of thunder, shaking the very foundations of the world. "I've had enough of your lies and betrayals. It's time for the truth to be revealed."
With a sudden flash of movement, Qin Wentian reached out and grasped the ancient artifact that hung from his neck. The artifact began to glow with an intense light, and the air around them seemed to distort and ripple.
Chu Ling'er's eyes widened in shock as she realized what was happening. She stumbled backward, her eyes fixed on the artifact, as Qin Wentian's voice boomed out across the land.
"You are hereby sentenced to death for your crimes against our clan," Qin Wentian declared, his voice echoing across the land. "May the verdict of the ancients be your final judgment."
As Qin Wentian spoke, the artifact began to glow brighter, and the air around them seemed to ignite with a fierce blue light. Chu Ling'er's eyes were fixed on the artifact, her expression frozen in terror as she realized that her fate was sealed.
But just as Qin Wentian was about to deliver the final blow, a figure appeared at the edge of the clearing. It was an old man, his face lined with age and his eyes burning with a fierce inner light.
"Wait," the old man called out, his voice commanding. "Do not pass judgment yet."
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed, his grip on the artifact faltering. "Who are you?" he demanded.
The old man stepped forward, his eyes locked on Qin Wentian. "I am the guardian of the ancient artifact," he declared. "And I will not allow you to pass judgment on Chu Ling'er without hearing her side of the story."
Qin Wentian's anger flared, but he hesitated, his eyes locked on the old man. Chu Ling'er's eyes seemed to gleam with hope, and she took a step forward, her eyes locked on Qin Wentian.
"It's true," she said, her voice low and husky. "I did what I had to do to protect our clan. But there is more to the story than you know."
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed, his grip on the artifact tightening. "What do you mean?" he demanded.
Chu Ling'er's eyes seemed to gleam with a fierce inner light. "I mean that there is more to the clan's history than you know," she said. "And I will reveal all, even if it costs me my life."
And with that, the air was filled with an electric tension, as Qin Wentian, Chu Ling'er, and the old man stood poised on the brink of a great revelation, their fates hanging in the balance like a thread of silk...
