太古神王
**Chapter 97: The Rift**
The silence between Qin Wentian and Chu Ling'er was like a thick veil, suffocating and oppressive. They stood there, frozen in a staredown, their eyes burning with a fierce intensity. The air was charged with tension, palpable and alive.
"Why, Ling'er?" Qin Wentian's voice was low and even, but beneath the surface, a storm was brewing. His eyes seemed to bore into her very soul, searching for the truth.
Chu Ling'er's expression remained calm, but a hint of panic flickered in her eyes. She knew she was on thin ice, and one misstep would send her plummeting into the abyss. "I...I did it for us, Wentian. For our future," she stammered.
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed. "Our future?" He spat out the words, his anger and betrayal simmering just below the surface. "You're willing to sacrifice everything for your own selfish desires?"
Chu Ling'er's face paled. She knew she had gone too far, but she couldn't take it back now. "Wentian, please—"
He cut her off with a cold, hard laugh. "No, Ling'er. You should have thought about that before you betrayed me."
The words hung in the air like a challenge, and Chu Ling'er knew she had to respond. But what could she say? That she was sorry? That she loved him? It was too late for apologies, and Qin Wentian's heart was already broken beyond repair.
The silence between them grew thicker, heavier, until it seemed to crush them both. And then, in a flash of fury, Qin Wentian's hand shot out, his palm slamming into the oak table with a crack that echoed through the room.
"We're done," he snarled, his eyes blazing with a fierce determination. "I'll never forgive you, Ling'er. And I'll never forget."
With that, he turned and strode out of the room, leaving Chu Ling'er alone, her heart heavy with guilt and shame. The door slammed shut behind him, and she knew she had lost him forever.
As she stood there, the weight of her betrayal crushing her, a voice whispered in her ear. "The price of your betrayal is higher than you ever imagined, Ling'er."
Chu Ling'er spun around, but there was no one there. The voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere, echoing off the walls of her mind. And then, just as suddenly, it was gone.
She was left alone, consumed by the darkness of her own guilt and regret. The rift between her and Qin Wentian had grown wide and deep, and she knew she would never be able to bridge it.
