**Chapter 62: The Web of Deceit**
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with the implications of Chu Ling'er's treachery. He couldn't trust her anymore, and the thought of it sent a chill down his spine. He felt like he was drowning in a sea of lies, with no lifeline in sight.
"My dear Qin Wentian, don't be so naive," Chu Ling'er's voice was like honey, sweet and seductive, but Qin Wentian was immune to her charms now. He regarded her with a cold, calculating gaze.
"I didn't think you were capable of such deceit," Qin Wentian said, his tone icy. "But I was wrong. You're just as ruthless as the rest of them."
Chu Ling'er's expression remained serene, but Qin Wentian detected a flicker of annoyance in her eyes. "What are you talking about, Qin Wentian?" she asked, feigning innocence.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about," Qin Wentian growled, his fists clenched. "Your little secret, the one you've been hiding from me all this time. I know it now, and I won't let you get away with it."
Chu Ling'er's eyes flashed with anger, but Qin Wentian could see the fear lurking beneath. She knew she was caught, and her only hope was to try and bluff her way out of this situation.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she repeated, her voice rising.
Qin Wentian snorted. "Don't play dumb, Chu Ling'er. I have proof. And if you think about betraying me again, you'll pay the price."
Chu Ling'er's face twisted, her eyes welling up with tears. "Qin Wentian, please... I was just trying to protect myself. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Qin Wentian's face was a mask of indifference. "Protect yourself? By betraying me? By using me for your own gain?"
Chu Ling'er's tears spilled down her cheeks, but Qin Wentian remained unmoved. He knew she was just acting, trying to manipulate him into sparing her.
"Get out," Qin Wentian's voice was cold, unforgiving. "Leave my sight. I never want to see your face again."
Chu Ling'er's eyes widened in shock, but she quickly regained her composure. She backed away, her eyes locked on Qin Wentian's, and then turned and disappeared into the darkness.
Qin Wentian watched her go, his mind reeling with the implications of what had just happened. He felt like he was standing at the edge of a cliff, staring out into an abyss of uncertainty.
And then, just as he was about to turn away, he heard a faint whisper in his ear.
"You shouldn't have done that, Qin Wentian."
Qin Wentian's head whipped around, his eyes scanning the darkness. But there was no one there.
He swallowed hard, his heart pounding in his chest. Who was speaking to him? And what did they want?
The darkness seemed to grow thicker, more menacing, and Qin Wentian knew that he was in grave danger. He had to be careful; he had to be vigilant.
But as he turned to leave, he felt a chill run down his spine. He knew that he was not alone. And he knew that his worst fears were about to come true.
