第20章 "Deceit's Shadow Falls"
太古神王
**Chapter 20: The Web of Deceit Unravels**
Chu Ling'er's words hung in the air like a challenge, her smile a magnet that drew Qin Wentian in. She knew that he was a formidable opponent, but she was confident in her own abilities. "Why should I be afraid of you?" she asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Qin Wentian's expression darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. "You're afraid, Chu Ling'er," he said, his voice low and menacing. "You're always afraid. Afraid of losing, afraid of being defeated."
Chu Ling'er's smile never wavered, but Qin Wentian could sense the tension building inside her. She was not used to being pushed around, and she would not take it lying down.
"I'm not afraid of you," she repeated, her voice steady. "I'm just aware of the risks. And I'm willing to take those risks to achieve my goals."
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed. "Your goals?" he repeated. "What are your goals, Chu Ling'er?"
Chu Ling'er's gaze drifted away from Qin Wentian, her eyes scanning the horizon as if searching for something. "I want to become the strongest," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Qin Wentian's expression turned cold. "You want to become the strongest?" he repeated. "At any cost?"
Chu Ling'er's gaze snapped back to Qin Wentian, her eyes flashing with anger. "What do you know about it?" she snapped.
Qin Wentian's voice remained calm. "I know that you're willing to do anything to achieve your goals. And I know that you're not afraid to betray others to get what you want."
Chu Ling'er's face turned white with rage. "How dare you!" she hissed.
Qin Wentian's expression remained unyielding. "I dare because it's the truth. And because I'm not afraid of you, Chu Ling'er."
The two of them stood there, locked in a silent stare-down, the tension between them palpable. Qin Wentian knew that he had pushed her to the brink, but he also knew that he had to make her understand the stakes.
"Chu Ling'er," he said, his voice low and husky. "You're playing a game that you don't understand. A game that can cost you everything."
Chu Ling'er's smile never wavered, but Qin Wentian could sense the tension building inside her. She was not used to being pushed around, and she would not take it lying down.
"I'll play the game," she said, her voice steady. "And I'll win."
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed. "We'll see," he said.
And with that, the two of them disappeared into the shadows, their fates hanging precariously in the balance.
