**Chapter 33: The Fallout**
Lin Feng's words hung in the air, heavy with accusation and anger. Jaxon's eyes, once bright with enthusiasm, now seemed dull and lifeless, like a balloon that had lost its air.
"I didn't know what to do, Lin," Jaxon said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I was just a pawn in their game. I was promised a spot on the national team if I helped them manipulate the outcome of the games."
Lin Feng's face contorted in disgust. "And I thought we were friends," he spat. "I thought we were a team."
Jaxon looked up, his eyes pleading. "I know it was wrong, Lin. But I was desperate. I wanted to make it to the top, to be a legend on the court. And they promised me that if I helped them, they would make it happen."
Lin Feng snorted. "You're not a legend, Jaxon. You're a traitor. And now, we're going to have to face the consequences of your actions."
The two players stood there, the tension between them palpable. The room seemed to shrink, as if the walls were closing in on them. The only sound was the heavy breathing of the two players, their hearts pounding in their chests.
Suddenly, the door burst open and Coach Zhang strode in, his face red with anger. "What's going on here?" he demanded.
Lin Feng turned to him, his eyes flashing. "Jaxon here has been cheating all season. He's been helping the other team win games."
Coach Zhang's face turned even redder. "Jaxon, you're... you're... I don't even have words for what you've done."
Jaxon looked down, his eyes welling up with tears. "I'm sorry, Coach. I was desperate. I didn't know what else to do."
Coach Zhang's face twisted in a mixture of anger and sadness. "Get out of my sight," he spat. "You're no longer a part of this team."
As Jaxon slunk out of the room, Lin Feng turned to Coach Zhang. "What are we going to do about the rest of the season?" he asked.
Coach Zhang's eyes narrowed. "We'll review the games and see if there was any evidence of tampering. If there was, we'll have to forfeit the games and start over."
Lin Feng's heart sank. All their hard work, all their victories, would mean nothing. They would have to start from scratch.
As they left the room, Lin Feng couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment and anger. But he knew he had to focus on the future, on building a new team, a new season.
But as they walked out of the gym, Lin Feng noticed something strange. Jaxon was gone. And in his place, was a mysterious figure, lurking in the shadows.
"What's going on?" Lin Feng whispered to Coach Zhang.
Coach Zhang's eyes flickered with unease. "I don't know, Lin. But I think we're in for a lot more trouble than we bargained for."
And with that, the chapter ended, leaving Lin Feng and Coach Zhang with more questions than answers, and a sense of unease that would linger for a long time to come.
