第33章 "Threads of Deceit Unravel"
剑道独尊
**Chapter 33: The Web of Lies**
Chen Yang's gaze remained unwavering, his eyes burning with intensity as he pierced through the girl's veil of secrets. The silence stretched out, like a thin thread about to snap.
"I knew it," he said, his voice a low growl. "You're hiding something. What is it, exactly?"
The girl's eyes darted about, searching for an escape route. Her lips parted, but no words emerged. Chen Yang's grip on the hilt of his sword tightened, the leather creaking in protest.
"You can trust me, Ling," he said, his voice softening. "I won't hurt you. I just need to know the truth."
Ling's eyes flashed with anger, her gaze flashing like a wounded animal. For a moment, Chen Yang thought he saw a glimmer of the real her, hidden beneath the mask of secrets and lies.
But then, her expression smoothed out, and she smiled, the curve of her lips a cold, calculated thing.
"Chen Yang, you're so clever," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You think you're the only one who knows how to play the game, don't you?"
Chen Yang's eyes narrowed. "What game are you talking about?"
Ling's smile grew wider. "The game of secrets and lies. You're so good at it, aren't you? You think you can uncover every secret, every lie. But what if I told you there's something you don't know? Something that would blow this whole thing wide open?"
Chen Yang's grip on the hilt of his sword relaxed, his mind racing with the implications. What could she possibly know that would threaten the entire web of secrets he had uncovered?
"What are you talking about, Ling?" he asked, his voice laced with warning.
Ling's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I'll tell you, Chen Yang. But only if you agree to meet with me, alone. No witnesses, no distractions. Just you and me, and the truth."
Chen Yang's instincts screamed at him to refuse, to walk away from this treacherous game. But something in Ling's words resonated with him. What could she possibly know that would threaten the very foundations of the sword world?
"What do you want to show me?" he asked, his voice a little quieter.
Ling's smile grew wider. "That's for me to know, and you to find out. Meet me at the old windmill on the outskirts of town, tonight, at midnight. Come alone."
And with that, she vanished, leaving Chen Yang to grapple with the web of lies and secrets that seemed to entangle him at every turn.
