**Chapter 77: "The Silenced lie"**

I crept forward, my footsteps quiet on the dusty floor. The dim light cast long shadows, making it seem as if the crates themselves were watching me. I knew Nightshade was here, I could feel it. But where?

Suddenly, a faint whisper echoed through the warehouse, "You shouldn't be here." My heart skipped a beat as I spun around, my eyes scanning the darkness. "Who's there?" I called out, my voice low and even.

A figure emerged from the shadows, tall and imposing. "You're a hard man to find," he said, his voice dripping with menace.

I drew my gun, my finger tightening around the trigger. "I'm not looking for trouble," I lied.

The man chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "You're exactly what I'm looking for."

I narrowed my eyes, trying to place his voice. It was familiar, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. "Who are you?"

The man pulled out a photo from his pocket, a picture of me and a woman, smiling and carefree. "You're a married man, Agent Lin. Or at least, you were."

My heart racing, I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. "What do you want?" I demanded.

The man smiled, his eyes glinting with cruelty. "I want to know why you abandoned her. Why you left her to rot in a foreign prison, her life sentence served."

I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead as I realized who this man was. "You're one of the prisoners," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

The man nodded, his eyes burning with hatred. "I was a prisoner, Agent Lin. And you got me there. You and your little game of cat and mouse."

I felt a surge of anger and guilt, mixed with a healthy dose of fear. This man was a ghost from my past, a reminder of the damage I'd done. And he was here to exact his revenge.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I lied, trying to buy myself some time.

The man snorted, his eyes rolling in disgust. "Don't play innocent with me, Agent Lin. I know everything. I know about the mission that went wrong, about the woman who died because of your mistake."

I felt a lump form in my throat as I realized the full extent of my betrayal. This man was a piece of my past, a reminder of the devastation I'd caused. And he was here to make me pay.

"You're going to have to do better than that," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

The man smiled, his eyes glinting with malice. "I will. Oh, yes. I will."

With that, he disappeared into the shadows, leaving me with more questions than answers. Who was this man? What did he want from me? And how was I going to get out of this alive?

As I stood there, frozen in fear, I knew that my world was about to come crashing down. And I had no idea how to stop it.
