第27章 "Web of Deceit Unravels"

谍影风云

**Chapter 27: "The Price of Betrayal"**

Li's sudden action caught me off guard, and I quickly regained my composure, my hand instinctively reaching for the gun at my waist. But Li was already standing in front of me, his eyes locked onto mine with an unsettling intensity.

"You're not going anywhere, Phoenix," he said, his voice low and even. "Not until you understand the true extent of the web I've woven."

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite myself. "And what, pray tell, is the true extent of this web?"

Li smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "You know as much as I do, Phoenix. Or at least, you should."

I snorted, skeptical. "Save it, Li. I'm not buying what you're selling."

Li's smile never wavered. "Ah, but I think you will. You see, I've been playing a little game, Phoenix. A game of cat and mouse. And I think it's time you knew the rules."

As he spoke, Li's eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if searching for something. I felt a shiver run down my spine, and my grip on my gun tightened.

"What are you talking about, Li?" I demanded, trying to keep my tone steady.

But Li just laughed, a dry, mirthless sound. "Oh, Phoenix. You really are as dense as I thought. The web I've woven is a web of lies, of deception. And you, my friend, are the fly caught in its snare."

I felt a cold dread creeping up my spine as Li's words sank in. "What do you mean?" I repeated, trying to keep my voice from shaking.

Li's smile grew wider, and for a moment, I saw something glinting in his eyes - something that looked almost like triumph.

"Ah, but that would be telling, wouldn't it?" he said, his voice dripping with malicious intent.

As he spoke, Li's eyes flicked to the side, and I followed his gaze to see a group of heavily armed men entering the room. My heart skipped a beat as I realized what was happening.

"You're making a big mistake, Li," I growled, my hand tightening around my gun.

Li's smile never wavered. "Oh, I'm not making a mistake, Phoenix. I'm just collecting my winnings."

With a sudden burst of speed, Li lunged at me, his hand closing around my wrist like a vice. I felt a jolt of pain as he twisted my arm, and my gun flew from my grasp.

"No!" I yelled, struggling against his grip.

But Li just laughed, his eyes gleaming with triumph.

"You should have stayed out of this, Phoenix," he whispered, his hot breath on my ear.

As the world went dark, I realized too late that I had been just a pawn in Li's game all along. And now, I was about to pay the price of betrayal.
