第165章 "Shattered Trust"
谍影风云
**Chapter 165: "The Revelation"**
I glared at Rachel, my mind racing with the implications of her words. Innocent? She had to be joking. "You expect me to believe that?" I growled, my hands clenched into fists.
Rachel's expression remained serene, but I detected a flicker of unease in her eyes. "I'm telling you the truth, Li," she said, her voice softening. "I didn't betray you, and I didn't betray the Agency."
I snorted. "Don't play dumb, Rachel. You're good at it, but I'm not buying it." I leaned forward, my eyes blazing with intensity. "What do you know about the Shadow Initiative?"
Rachel's gaze darted away, and for a moment, I thought I saw a hint of fear. "What are you talking about?" she asked, her voice dripping with innocent curiosity.
I slammed my fist on the table again, making the glassware shudder. "Don't play stupid with me either, Rachel. I know you have information. Spill it."
Rachel's eyes locked onto mine, and for a split second, I thought I saw a glimmer of something - something that looked almost like... regret. But it was quickly replaced by her usual composure.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she repeated, her voice firm.
I shook my head, my mind reeling with the possibilities. "Fine," I said, my voice cold. "I'll find out what's going on myself." I stood up, my eyes scanning the room. "And when I do, you'll be the first one I come for."
Rachel's smile returned, and for a moment, I thought I saw a hint of triumph. "You're so predictable, Li," she said, her voice dripping with mockery. "You're so blind to the truth."
I spun around, my heart racing. "What truth?" I demanded, my hand on the hilt of my gun.
Rachel's laughter was music to my ears, but it was a cold, mirthless sound. "You'll find out soon enough," she replied, her eyes glinting with malevolence. "But for now, let's just say... the game is far from over."
I turned to leave, but Rachel's voice stopped me. "Li?"
I turned back, my eyes narrowed. "Yes?"
Rachel's smile grew wider, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of something - something that looked almost like... hope. "You're going to need a better plan," she said, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "Because the Shadow Initiative is coming for you, and you're not prepared."
I felt a chill run down my spine as I turned and walked away, the words echoing in my mind like a death knell. The Shadow Initiative. What did they want? And why did Rachel seem to know more than she was letting on?
I pushed open the door to the outside world, and the cool night air enveloped me like a shroud. I took a deep breath, my mind racing with the implications. What lay ahead? And who would emerge victorious in this game of cat and mouse?
The answer, it seemed, was far from certain.
