**Chapter 128: "The Phantom of Reality"**
I stumbled backwards, my mind reeling from the revelation. The woman's words still echoed in my ears, like a haunting melody. Who was I? What was my purpose? The questions swirled in my head like a vortex, threatening to suck me in and consume me.
"Stop playing games, Lin," I heard her voice, icy and detached. "The truth is, you're not who you think you are. You're a pawn, a tool, a means to an end."
I felt a surge of anger and frustration. How could she say such things? Didn't she know who I was? Didn't she care?
"Who am I?" I spat back, my voice low and venomous. "You're the one who's been lying to me all along. You're the one who's been playing games with my life."
The woman's eyes never left mine, but I could sense a flicker of annoyance. "I'm just telling you the truth, Lin. You're a ghost, a phantom, a shadow of a man. You don't exist unless someone creates you."
I felt a chilling sensation creep up my spine. Was it true? Was I just a creation of someone's imagination? The thought made my blood run cold.
"You're not worthy of the truth," she sneered. "You're not worthy of existence."
I laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You know nothing about me," I spat back. "You know nothing about what it means to be human."
The woman's eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if she could see the very essence of my being. For a moment, I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare, unable to move, unable to breathe.
And then, she vanished.
I stood there, frozen, my mind racing with the implications. Who was I? What was my purpose? The questions swirled in my head like a maelstrom, threatening to consume me.
I looked around, disoriented. Where was I? What was I doing here?
And then, I saw it. A small piece of paper on the table, with a message scrawled in red ink.
"Meet me at the old clock tower at midnight. Come alone."
I felt a shiver run down my spine. Who was behind this? What did they want from me?
I looked down at my hands, half-expecting to see them disappear like smoke. I was a phantom, a shadow, a mere creation of someone's imagination.
But then, I looked up, and I saw the woman's eyes, piercing and cold, watching me from the shadows.
And I knew that I had to find out the truth.
