**Chapter 126: "The Shadow of Doubt"**

I stared at the woman, my mind reeling from the revelation. Everything I thought I knew was turned upside down. The truth was, I wasn't who I thought I was. My entire identity, every mission, every memory - it was all a carefully constructed lie.

The woman's eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if daring me to confront the truth. "You're not 'Shadow,' are you?" she asked, her voice low and husky.

I felt a cold sweat trickle down my spine. How did she know? I tried to keep my emotions in check, but it was no use. The dam had broken, and the truth was pouring out like a flood.

I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "What do you know?" I demanded, my voice harsh.

She smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "I know that 'Shadow' is just a puppet, a creation of the Night Hawk. And I know that you're nothing but a pawn in his game."

I felt a surge of anger, mixed with a dash of fear. Who was this woman? How did she know so much? And what did she want from me?

"I don't know what you're talking about," I lied, trying to keep my cool.

She laughed, a sound that sent shivers down my spine. "Don't play dumb, 'Shadow.' You know exactly what I'm talking about. You're just trying to cover your tracks."

I gritted my teeth, trying to think of a way to extricate myself from this mess. But the woman was right. I was caught in a web of lies, and I didn't know how to get out.

The room seemed to grow darker, the shadows closing in on me like a vise. I felt like I was losing my grip on reality, like I was trapped in a nightmare from which I couldn't awaken.

And then, just as I thought things couldn't get any worse, I heard the sound of footsteps outside the door. The Night Hawk had arrived, and I could feel his cold, calculating gaze on me like a weight.

I knew then that I had to get out of there, and fast. But as I turned to make a run for it, I felt a hand on my shoulder, spinning me around.

The woman's eyes locked onto mine, and I saw a glimmer of something there, something that looked almost like... pity.

"You're not alone, 'Shadow,'" she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of my heart. "But you're running out of time."

And with that, everything went black.

To be continued...
