谍影风云
**Chapter 124: "The Truth Revealed"**
The woman's words hung in the air like a challenge, daring me to question the very foundation of my mission. I felt like a punch to the gut, the air knocked out of me. How could this be? I had been so sure...
I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "Explain," I growled, my voice low and even.
The woman nodded, a small, hesitant smile on her lips. "It's about Zhang," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "He's not who you think he is."
My eyes narrowed, my mind racing with the implications. "What are you talking about?" I demanded.
The woman took a deep breath, her eyes darting around the room before settling on me. "Zhang is a plant, a mole. He's been feeding false intel to our side all along."
My jaw clenched, my fists balling up in anger. "How did I not see this?" I spat, feeling like a fool.
The woman's expression softened, her eyes full of compassion. "You were played, Lin. You were so focused on the mission, you didn't see the strings being pulled from behind the scenes."
I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead as the truth began to sink in. Zhang, my trusted ally, my friend... it was all a lie.
"What does this mean?" I asked, my voice cold and detached.
The woman's eyes locked onto mine, her words dripping with venom. "It means that everything we thought we knew was a lie. The whole operation was a setup, designed to take us down."
My mind reeling, I felt like I was drowning in a sea of deceit. How could this be? Who could have done this?
And then, like a jack-in-the-box, it hit me. The phone call, the strange behavior, the sudden disappearance... it all added up to one inescapable conclusion.
The woman's eyes seemed to know my thoughts before I even spoke. "Night Owl," she whispered, her voice a mere thread above a whisper.
My blood ran cold. The mastermind behind this entire operation was Night Owl, the one person I had been trying to eliminate all along.
The woman's eyes locked onto mine, a cold glint of determination in their depths. "We need to get out of here, now."
But I wasn't going anywhere. Not until I got to the bottom of this.
And as we stood there, frozen in time, I knew that our lives would never be the same again.
To be continued...
