第118章 "Deception's Dark Depths"
谍影风云
**Chapter 118: "The Game of Shadows"**
I narrowed my eyes, my mind still reeling from the revelations. "A ruse?" I repeated, trying to keep my tone steady. "What do you mean?"
The woman's gaze never wavered, her expression unreadable. "You were never meant to uncover the truth," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "You were a pawn in a much larger game."
I felt a cold sweat trickle down my spine as the weight of her words sank in. I had been so blind, so foolish. All this time, I thought I was working for a noble cause, but it was just a facade.
"You're telling me that everything I've done, everything I've risked, was for nothing?" I asked, my voice rising in anger and frustration.
The woman nodded, her eyes glinting with triumph. "That's right," she said. "You were just a pawn in a game of shadows, a game where the stakes were higher than you could ever imagine."
I felt like I had been punched in the gut, the air knocked out of me. I stumbled backward, my mind reeling with the implications. How could I have been so blind? How could I have trusted her?
As I stumbled backward, I tripped over my own feet, my gun flying out of my hand. The woman was on me in an instant, her hand wrapped around my wrist like a vice.
"You shouldn't have come here," she hissed, her breath hot against my ear. "You shouldn't have played the game."
I tried to struggle, but she was too strong. She pinned me to the ground, her weight crushing me beneath her. I felt like I was drowning, suffocating under the weight of her deceit.
And then, just as suddenly, she was gone. I was left lying there, my head spinning, my heart racing. I slowly sat up, my eyes scanning the room, trying to make sense of what had just happened.
That's when I saw him. Standing in the doorway, his eyes cold and calculating. The head of the organization, the one they called "Night Raven".
"You shouldn't have come here," he repeated, his voice low and menacing. "You shouldn't have played the game."
I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized the truth. I was trapped, trapped in a web of deceit and betrayal. And I was about to become just another pawn in the game of shadows.
To be continued...
