第106章 "Midnight's Unexpected Debt"
谍影风云
**Chapter 106: "The Unexpected Ally"**
I took a deep breath, my eyes locked onto the figure in the shadows. "You're late," I said, my voice low and even.
The figure stepped forward, revealing a woman with piercing green eyes and raven-black hair. "I apologize for the delay, 'Shadow'," she said, her voice husky and confident. "I had to take care of some... unexpected business."
I raised an eyebrow, my instincts firing off warning signals. "Unfinished business?" I repeated, my hand reaching for the gun holstered at my hip.
The woman laughed, a low, throaty sound. "No, nothing like that. Just a little... insurance policy, taken out on a certain someone."
My eyes narrowed. "Who?"
She smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "Someone who's been playing both sides against the middle. Someone who's been hiding secrets."
My grip on my gun tightened. "You mean Night Raven?"
The woman nodded. "The same. I have reason to believe he's been double-crossing me, just like he's been double-crossing you, 'Shadow'."
I felt a rush of adrenaline, a mix of excitement and trepidation. This was exactly the kind of intel I needed to take down Night Raven once and for all.
"So, what do you want from me?" I asked, my eyes never leaving hers.
She smiled again, her eyes glinting with amusement. "I want to work with you, 'Shadow'. I want us to take down Night Raven together, and claim the prize that's been withheld from us for so long."
I hesitated, my mind racing with the implications. Could I trust her? Was this a trap, or a genuine offer of alliance?
"I need to know more," I said finally, my voice firm. "What's your motivation? What's in it for you?"
The woman's smile faltered for a moment, before she regained her composure. "Let's just say... I have a score to settle with Night Raven. And with your help, I think we can settle it once and for all."
I nodded, a plan beginning to form in my mind. "Alright, let's do it. But remember, I'm only in this for one reason: to take down Night Raven. If you're just going to stab me in the back, you'll regret it."
The woman laughed again, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I think we can trust each other, 'Shadow'. For now, at least."
As we shook hands, I felt a sense of unease creeping up my spine. Was I making a deal with the devil, or was this the start of a beautiful partnership?
Only time would tell. And as we turned to leave the warehouse, I couldn't shake the feeling that our actions would set off a chain reaction that would change everything.
But what would we find when we emerged into the bright lights of the city? Would it be victory, or disaster? The outcome was far from certain. But one thing was for sure: the stakes had just been raised, and the game was about to get a whole lot more complicated.
