大魏宫廷
**163章:局部优势的迷局**
赵弘润的语气仍然電話,但他的眼睛中已然有hint of calculation. "You may be right, Lee. But what's the point of having a 'big picture' if you can't even manage your own backyard?"
Lee's smile remained, but his eyes narrowed slightly, sensing the subtle shift in Zhao Hongrun's tone. "You're not agreeing with me, Your Highness," he said dryly.
Zhao Hongrun's gaze lingered on Lee, his mind racing with the implications of Lee's words. He knew that his uncle, the Emperor, was growing increasingly suspicious of his intentions. The Emperor's advisors were whispering in his ear, warning him of the dangers of Zhao Hongrun's "radical" reforms.
"I'm just trying to remind you, Lee," Zhao Hongrun said, his voice even, "that our position is tenuous at best. We need to tread carefully if we're to maintain our advantage."
Lee raised an eyebrow. "Our advantage? You mean our royal blood? I think that's exactly what's working against us, Your Highness. The courtiers are more loyal to the Emperor than to you, and don't forget, you're a royal prince, but not the crown prince."
Zhao Hongrun's face darkened, his anger simmering just below the surface. He knew Lee was right, but he refused to admit it. Not yet.
"We'll discuss this further, Lee," he said, his tone curt. "For now, I need you to prepare a report on the current state of the empire's finances. I want to know where every coin is being spent, and who's benefiting from it."
Lee nodded, his expression unreadable. "As you wish, Your Highness. But may I suggest, for your own good, that you watch your back? There are those who would love to see you removed from the picture."
Zhao Hongrun's eyes flashed with anger, but he kept his voice steady. "I'll take care of myself, Lee. And I'll take care of the empire. You can be certain of that."
As Lee departed, Zhao Hongrun couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in his stomach. He knew that Lee was right, that there were those who would stop at nothing to sabotage his plans. But he was determined to push forward, no matter the cost.
Little did he know, his fate was already being decided, and the consequences of his actions would be far more devastating than he could have ever imagined.
"The plot thickens," a voice whispered in his ear, just as he was about to dismiss Lee's warning. "But for now, let's keep playing the game, shall we?"
